This course includes the limitations of serological techniques (when testing for antibody/or antigen markers of bloodborne pathogens), the viruses detected by nucleic acid testing (NAT), the facts about the hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses, the results when testing for HIV, HCV, and HBV including NAT testing, and the value of serological and NAT testing to improve blood transfusion safety.
